ArinMaya is an inspirational singer, songwriter, sound healer and activist who Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Gregory Porter described as having “a unique and ancient sound.”
Though she’s been called “the Mayor of Brooklyn,” ArinMaya originally hails from Chicago’s South Side where her artistic training began with studies in West African dance and rhythms, continued in numerous church and community choirs and was fostered by her parents’ diverse record collection. She went on to sing and study improvisation and traditional black music with Bobby McFerrin and Voicestra, Ysaye Barnwell of Sweet Honey in the Rock, respectively. Inspired by these experiences and her studies at New York Open Center’s 190-hour Integrative Sound and Music Practitioner Training, she created Meditation Moments™ and Melanation Moments – free community sound healing offerings intended to help people self-heal and center themselves in the midst of COVID-19. Her music has been considered for a Grammy in four categories.
ArinMaya has shared the stage with countless icons, artists and activists; is a founding member, arranger and musical director with the Resistance Revival Chorus; has performed on the Late Show with Jimmy Fallon and NBC’s Saturday Night Live, as well as for incarcerated youth at Rikers Island; and has been an artist-in-residence at schools throughout the boroughs of New York City and beyond.
Her solo performances are known to be joy-filled, healing experiences that captivate audiences at intimate venues around the world and she is committed to creating uplifting music with like-minded talent across the genres of soul, jazz, hip-hop, and world music.
